Attorney Information Checklist for Funding Review

Legal professionals organizing case documents for a funding review.

Start With the Attorney Handling the Claim

A funding review needs reliable information about the represented case, not simply an accident description. Provide your attorney's name, firm, and current contact details, along with the incident date and the type of claim. Let the attorney know you are considering funding so the request does not arrive without context. If representation recently changed, identify who currently handles the matter. Graylock can explain what is needed for a particular review; an initial inquiry does not require you to assemble every record or upload private documents to a public page.

Summarize the Incident and Responsibility

A concise summary should identify the event, the parties involved, and the basis for the claim. Your attorney may have reports, photographs, witness information, or correspondence addressing liability. Flag disputed facts rather than omitting them. If several vehicles, businesses, or insurance policies are involved, explain what has been confirmed and what remains under investigation. A clear account is more useful than an unsupported estimate of case value. The funding reviewer assesses the information provided while your lawyer remains responsible for legal analysis and handling the claim.

Identify Relevant Treatment and Case Status

A provider list and treatment timeline can help locate appropriate medical documentation. The attorney can decide which records are relevant and available for authorized review. Also clarify whether the matter is under investigation, in negotiation, filed in court, or approaching another documented stage. An expected event is not the same as a guaranteed resolution date. If information is incomplete, state that accurately. Graylock may need further details before reaching a decision, and additional documentation does not itself mean approval or establish a particular advance amount.

Include Existing Obligations

Tell your attorney about earlier funding agreements, outstanding payoff statements, and other known claims against possible proceeds. A review that ignores prior advances can give a misleading picture of the money available. Counsel may also identify fees, case costs, liens, or allocation issues that need consideration. Do not guess at a current payoff when a written statement can be requested. Distinguish amounts already owed from estimates and disputed items. The purpose is to evaluate the proposed request against the actual case circumstances, including obligations that could affect remaining proceeds.

Share Information Through Appropriate Channels

Ask which secure method should be used and what authorization is required before transmitting sensitive materials. Avoid sending unnecessary identity, medical, or financial records in an ordinary public inquiry or social media message. Keep a short checklist of what was requested, who is providing it, and any unanswered question. Discuss the household expense you hope funding will address and the amount needed. Once an offer exists, review its costs and conditions with counsel. Completing the information checklist supports evaluation; it is not a promise of approval or a requirement to accept an offer.

Request a Review With Graylock

Start with your attorney’s contact details, your state, the incident date and the amount needed for current expenses. Graylock reviews your pending claim with your attorney and may request additional information. Applying is free and does not require you to accept an offer. Approval, signing documents and receiving funds are separate steps; timing depends on the case and payment arrangements.

Understand the Cost Before Accepting

Accepting funding has a cost. Repayment comes from settlement or judgment proceeds under your agreement and reduces the amount remaining from your recovery. If the case produces no recovery, you owe nothing under Graylock’s non-recourse terms. Review the written agreement with your attorney, including charges and payoff amounts at different dates. Funding does not guarantee approval of additional requests or a particular case outcome.
